HAVE A QUESTION?

WE HAVE ANSWERS TO YOUR MOST PRESSING QUESTIONS

What is Therapy?

Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counseling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses (sensations in the body). Through therapy, you can change self-destructive behaviors and habits, resolve painful feelings, improve your relationships, and more. Therapy addresses a wide range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and grief. Therapy can also be used for purposes other than immediate mental health concerns, such as life changing events, relationship, parenting, and work-related issues.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

There is a great deal of variety in the length of time therapy takes depending on the individual who comes to therapy. The treatment methods the therapist uses, the goals of the person seeking therapy, the symptoms he or she has, and the history of those symptoms will all determine the length of therapy.

How long does a therapy session last?

A typical therapy session lasts 60 minutes, although some insurance plans will only allow for a 45-minute session.  We will contact your insurance provider ahead of time so that you are aware prior to your first appointment.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

Your therapist will invite you into her office.  The first session is usually dedicated to relationship building, as well as information gathering regarding the presenting problem or symptoms.  Each therapist has her own unique way of achieving this.

What if I don't feel my therapist is a good fit?

No problem!  We do our best to match you with the right therapist based on the presenting problem, your availability, and your personality.  We know that the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your therapist.  But we also know that sometimes we can get it wrong.  If at any time you feel your therapist is not the one for you, call the director and we’ll match you with another therapist that will hopefully be a better fit.

Do you have areas of specialization?

All of our therapists have earned a Master in Social Work and has passed their NJ state licensing exam.  We have a mix of Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Social Workers who work under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor.  We work with individuals ranging from young children and adolescents, to young adults and the elderly.  We provide individual, couples, and family therapy.  Each therapist has their own area of expertise; however, they are each trained in all areas of therapy.

Do you accept my insurance?

The answer depends on the contracted rate with each individual insurance company.  A therapy session may be billed up to $200 per session.  If you do not have insurance, our self pay rate is $100.  We do charge based on a sliding scale.  This will be discussed with the director prior to scheduling your first appointment.

How do I know if therapy is for me?

Therapy can be a wonderful tool to help people live happy, fulfilling lives.  People tend to come into therapy when they are experiencing some difficulty coping or resolving an issue on their own. Commonly, people will seek therapy because they are experiencing depression, anxiety, relational problems, or another issue that is causing them some distress.  If you are asking yourself this question, chances are therapy is for you.

How often do I need to come in?

Frequency of sessions varies from person to person.  It is usually recommended that you schedule weekly sessions, especially at the start.  You and your therapist will determine what will be most beneficial to you based on your needs.  Some individuals meet once or twice a week, some meet every other week and some meet once a month.

Do you prescribe medication?

No.  Only a medical professional such as a Psychiatrist, or a Nurse Practitioner can prescribe medication.  We have Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Social Workers on staff who can refer you to a prescriber if you and your therapist deem it beneficial.  Medication is not a requirement for therapy and will never be pushed on you.

Is my information confidential?

In almost every instance, therapy is absolutely confidential. You therapist is required to maintain confidentiality about everything said in sessions.  For your own safety, there are some exceptions to the rule when it comes to confidentiality in therapy. Therapists are required to report if a patient is a threat to themselves or others. This may mean the patient has threatened suicide, is repeatedly harming themselves, or has threatened to harm another person.  Additionally, therapists are also required to report cases of ongoing child abuse or neglect.

Do you have evening or weekend appointments available?

Absolutely!  We schedule appointments Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm.  Our therapists have varying schedules, but there will always be someone available to meet your scheduling needs.

How much does a therapy session cost?

The answer depends on the contracted rate with each individual insurance company.  A therapy session may be billed up to $200 per session.  If you do not have insurance, our self pay rate is $100.  We do charge based on a sliding scale. This will be discussed with the director prior to scheduling your first appointment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check and credit cards, as well as health savings cards.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 48-hour cancellation policy.  We ask that you inform your therapist if you need to cancel or reschedule within 48 hours. However, we know that sometimes life happens and you may need to cancel unexpectedly.
