A LITTLE ABOUT THE OWNER
I grew up in Marlboro New Jersey with my two younger sisters and my amazing parents. They brought us up to be caring and giving and to be socially conscious. I always admired how willing they were to help others. I knew that one day I wanted to be in a position to do the same. In 1995, after graduating high school, I set out on my way to the great city of Boston and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Boston University, and then my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Simmons College. After a couple of different job experiences, I eventually landed in a position working in a juvenile detention facility. I worked there for 8 years, helping incarcerated teenagers work through some of the most difficult challenges. At the same time as I started that job, I met my husband, a Boston Native. I spent 20 years living in Boston, but I missed home, so in 2013 I convinced my husband to come to New Jersey. We found ourselves in Hillsborough. In 2015 we had our amazing son and a few months later I was offered a position as a therapist in a group practice in Somerville.
In April of 2017, I started my own solo practice in Hillsborough, while still practicing in Somerville. As my practice began to grow, I started asking myself how I could provide more to this amazing community I have grown to love. I became certified as a clinical supervisor and started supervising LSW’s working towards their clinical license. Through these therapists I was able to reach so many more people and had the idea to expand my practice. In January 2020, I started MFK Counseling as a group practice with three therapists. Over the course of the last few years, we've navigated our way through a pandemic, engaged in therapy in a whole new experience through telehealth platforms, grew into a practice of 18 therapists, moved into a larger space, and have become quite connected to this community.
MKF is now about to embark on a new venture. We are opening another location in the town I grew up in. With three of our Hillsborough therapists making their way to the Morganville office, along with a couple new faces, I find myself coming full circle. I am so excited to bring our energy to another community I love. Each of our therapists has something unique to contribute to the practice and is truly committed to the clients we work with. Whatever your struggle, let’s get it together. |
