NEW BEGINNINGS

New Beginnings

As the Jewish New Year approaches, I find myself reflecting on the meaning of fresh starts. Rosh Hashanah is a time of renewal—an opportunity to look back on the year that has passed, take stock of where we are, and set intentions for the season ahead. It’s a sacred reminder that beginnings can happen at any time, and that each new chapter holds the potential for growth.
This year, the theme of new beginnings feels especially close to home. My son recently started at a new school, and together we’ve joined a new temple community. Watching him step into these changes with such openness and resilience has been both humbling and inspiring. There’s a unique joy in seeing him not only adjust but truly thrive, reminding me that new beginnings, while sometimes uncertain, are also full of possibility.
The timing feels aligned with the season itself. As fall settles in—the air cooler, the leaves beginning to turn—we’re invited into transition. Autumn often carries a dual energy: it encourages reflection and gratitude for what has been, while also nudging us toward what is next.
But beginnings are not limited to holidays or seasons. They show up in so many parts of life—starting a new job, moving to a new place, entering a new relationship, or beginning a journey of healing. In my work, I often see how these fresh starts can stir up excitement, fear, hope, and uncertainty all at once. It takes courage to step into change, but it also opens the door to new opportunities for growth.
Of course, transitions aren’t always easy. They may bring grief for what’s being left behind, or doubts about what lies ahead. And yet, in the midst of uncertainty, there is always possibility. Each beginning holds within it the chance to create something meaningful and life-giving, even if we don’t yet see the full picture.
As I enter this season, I carry the reminder my son has given me: new beginnings invite us to stretch, to trust, and to welcome joy in unexpected places.
So as we step into this new season together, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
What new beginning are you embracing right now?
And if you find yourself navigating a transition that feels overwhelming or uncertain, know that you don’t have to move through it alone. Supporting people through seasons of change is at the heart of MKF Counseling. If you’re looking for guidance, encouragement, or simply a safe space to explore your next steps, we would be honored to walk alongside you.
